Credit Reports
A credit report is a factual record of your credit payment history...
It is provided to companies and individuals by credit bureaus for purposes permitted by law, usually to grant credit. The main purpose of a credit report is to help a credit grantor decide whether to grant you credit based upon your credit payment history. A credit report is a report generated from your credit file (a database maintained by a credit bureau containing your credit history).
More than 205 million people in the United States have a credit card, car loan, mortgage, or student loan. Almost everyone of them has a credit file. The information in your credit file is obtained directly from the companies you have credit with, as well as from government agencies such as the legal court systems. There are three major credit bureaus in the United States: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. Even though you are in good financial shape there is a possibility of identity theft or just a simple error in credit profile that might damage your credit life.

If you want to start reconstructing your credit, check your credit report first. Call or write to the Credit Bureaus if they have wrong entries on your report and ask to have removed any incorrect item from it (they have to respond within 30 days to your complaint). The easiest way is to call your creditors who put those items there, and ask to have them removed. After the incorrect items from your credit report have been removed, you can start reconstructing your credit rating. The easiest way to start is with a line of credit to prove your credit worthiness. Obtain one or two credit cards for your personal use only. Don't have too many cards in order to be able to monitor your spending. Use these cards to buy everyday items, like fuel and clothes, make sure that you do not overspend. By always paying on time, you can quickly rebuild your credit rating.
